There are millions of them...

Hey Readers!

Okay, so about 1% of the world's population has Autism. Not a lot, right? Think again. Lets magnify this.

Australia has a population of roughly 23 million. 1% of 23 million is 230 thousand.

The world has a population of roughly 7 billion. 1% of 7 billion is 70 million.

This is a photo of the biggest football stadium in the world, the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium. It can hold 150, 000 people.

Seems massive. Well, you would need 467 of this same stadium to hold all the Autistic people in the world.

Now, there are the same amount of Autistic people in the world as there are people in the combined populations of Belgium, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Tunisia, Hungary, Serbia and Chad.

You see, there are more people with Autism than you think.

Everytime your sibling has done something wrong, you feel like it is the end of the world. Recently, Bill physically attacked and beat up a teacher who took his phone from him. Charges were not pressed, however he was suspended. (Dont worry, the teacher wasn't too badly injured).

I felt like crawling under a rock and dying. Like, for real though, WHO DOES THAT?! Who attacks a 100kg woman, punches her, shoves her, throws chairs at her (yes this all really happened). My brother, that's who.

I am not going to feed you that stuff like "Oh, the poor kids in Africa have it worse" or "Be grateful you don't have to walk 10km to the well to get water!" Because it means nothing. When you are going through something with your sibling, it feels like the whole world is crashing down around you. I know, it's happened to me before.

Now that you see those statistics, I hope that you don't feel as alone. You have to remember, if it's happened to you, it has probably happened to at least half of those other 70 million families. Keep your head up lovely!

Love,

E.
